FOCH Tenth Avenue / Inwood Center
Wanda Huins is the Educational Director at our Inwood / Dyckman Housing Development Educational Center, located at 3732 Tenth Avenue in Northern Manhattan.
Ms. Huins brings to our organization more than two decades of continuous professional experience and expertise as a general education classroom teacher with the New York City Department of Education. She has also served as a Family Worker in the public school system, working closely with parents, families and the NYC Administration for Children’s Services to provide support services as needed in both workshop and domestic settings. Ms. Huins is especially proud of her record as a “proactive educator with proven abilities in preparing, managing and implementing structured, results-driven and enjoyable instruction within a positive and nurturing classroom environment.” In addition to her public school experience, she has also managed a private tutoring service and child-care program offering individualized support and age-appropriate instruction to both general- and special-education students in various age groups.
Ms. Huins holds the Master of Science degree in Education from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY), as well as the New York State Permanent Teacher Certification.
“Early childhood education should be an enjoyable and memorable learning experience for children, and our teachers need to have a passion for teaching if they are to facilitate the learning needs of those children who are entrusted to our care,” she says. “It is my hope that all of the children in my Center will achieve their developmental milestones as they engage in exciting and developmentally appropriate activities throughout their early learning years.”
