FOCH Hegeman Avenue Center
Janelle J. Bobb is the Educational Director at our Hegeman Avenue Center located in the East New York section of Brooklyn.
Ms. Bobb is an exceptionally energetic and enthusiastic educator with almost ten years of experience in the field. Her teaching experiences began at an early age, built on her training as a Certified High School Teacher at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ College (a University of the West Indies accredited college), and her work with high-school students.
Upon migrating to the United States, she continued to work with children of varying ages and abilities in diverse settings. But it was while pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Promotion Management at the City University of New York (CUNY), that she realized the extent to which teaching was still very much a part of who she was. While at college she worked as a College Assistant tutoring students in Biology and Kinesiology. She also joined the JCCA (Jewish Child Care Association) team providing counseling and skill-building services to many families and children in under-privileged communities around Brooklyn.
After completing college, Ms. Bobb joined the FOCH Family in 2009 while working concurrently as an Academic Achievement employee in several city Public Schools within the Flatbush community, where she provided one-on-one academic services to students from Kindergarten thru 8th Grade. It was while working at Friends of Crown Heights, however, that she was most able to realize her ability to motivate and advocate for parents, colleagues and young children in underprivileged communities and to share her love of learning as a facilitator of Teachers’ Professional Workshops. Today, having acquired a dual Master’s / Bachelor of Arts degree in General and Special Education together with the New York State Professional Certification for Public School, Ms. Bobb’s career path has completely shifted from Public Health to Early Childhood Education. She credits these accomplishments, in significant part, to the invaluable experience of working alongside the creative and passionate Group Teacher Ms. Maha Aquino, and under the leadership of fellow Educational Director Mrs. Hestelle Nichols.
Ms. Bobb embraces the notion that “my ability to motivate children and love of learning foster a successful learning environment; I welcome any opportunity to become a part of the village that raises the child.”
When not in the office and classroom, Ms. Bobb gushes at her new role of being a first-time Mom to the love of her life: “My beautiful baby girl, Morgan!”
