FOCH Sutter Avenue Center
Patricia Atkins is the Educational Director at our Sutter Avenue center, located in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. She brings to her position more than a decade of combined classroom experience, pedagogical expertise and educational leadership. She is especially passionate about the development of the whole child and works closely with our families and surrounding community to foster a nurturing, holistic and supportive environment for the children in her care.
Ms. Atkins is a former Educational Director with the Weeksville Gardens and Tomkins Children’s Centers of the Brooklyn Kindergarten Society, where she had also previously served as a Group Teacher of toddlers and preschoolers in all age groups. In addition to her extensive instructional experience, she was also directly responsible for the supervision and administrative leadership of all staff in her centers, including the implementation of all orientation, training and professional development activities.
Ms. Atkins earned her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY), where she is currently completing an additional dual Master’s degree in Educational and School District Leadership. She is also a graduate of Nyack College, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Before embarking on her current career as a professional educator, Ms. Atkins had previously served for 10 years as an Emergency Medical Technician with the New York City Fire Department Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
